Installing SP1 (among other things)
My brothers laptop has been badly misbehaving so I've got the job of trying to fix it.

Over 3GB of crap cleared with CCleaner, AVG is broken though and can't install it without SP1 I think. But whenever I try to install it, at 13% I get a 80070017 error (interrupted download I believe). I found something on the MS TechNet forums about deleting the Download folder in Windows/SoftwareDistribution which I did, but it still stopped at 13%

I'm aware I can download it via the Download Center, but thats a 450MB file, compared to 60MB.

Does any one have any idea how to get around this update error?

I've just finished the final updates to SP1 for Vista Business on desktop and laptop, though if you're having these issues then you should try to download SP1 from work and burn it onto a CD. Bring that home and make sure nothing is running on the Vista box in the background. If that doesn't work then Vista is corrupted in some way. What you could do is delete the profile, but you need another user account that is the admin of that PC. Do this under safe mode. Remember to backup your cookies, favorites and desktop icons. What will happen Vista will restore a fresh version of the prior stored profile. It's like getting a fresh start out on life.
