Question Solved: floppies incompatible with Vista?
I was going to get a floppy drive for my new comp, but the model I was going to get lists compatible systems as 98SE/ME/2000/XP. It doesn't list Vista.

Are floppies incompatible with Vista? I'm not exactly sure what I would use the floppy for but I figured it's useful to have at least if I ever need to use a boot disk for any reason.

Thanks,

NYC

(PS the model of floppy I was going to get is shown in this link:

Should be no problem.
Floppies are standard hardware.

Floppy drives are becoming a thing of the past for computer builders, nothing to do with any Operating system, just that nobody needs them much anymore (except us geeks), saves the PC maker a few bucks to not include them. Can I ask who this PC maker/seller was that was not offering them?

Yeah that is true and it's like software cd's as well. No wonder the prices have come down so much, the mfgr gives the consumer less and less and they don't even realize it. I never build without a floppy drive, you can't repair anything or test anything without it.

Mumbo, I didn't buy a whole comp, I bought the parts a few at a time and put the comp together. I always do it that way to have the most freedom of choice regarding exactly what I'd like each piece to be. I do my homework and examine the specs for each piece of hardware, to try and weed out incompatibilities.

I just haven't gotten around to buying the floppy drive yet. I placed the order Saturday morning and it should arrive within four more days.

Here's my layout:

ASUS P5KPL-VM Motherboard -- Socket 775 LGA 1333 FSB
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU -- Socket 775 LGA 1333 FSB E6750 Conroe 2.66 ghz
Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (x2)
LeadTek WinFast PX8600GT TDH 512MB GeForce 8600 GT PCI Express x16 Video Card
Kingston 240-pin DDR2 800 PC2 6400 Memory KVR800D2N5K2/4G -- 4 GB (2 x 2 GB)
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Channels PCI Express Interface Sound Card
LITE-ON 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE Combo
APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel Mid-Tower Casing

And finally I'm adding the following:

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DH-20A4P-04
SAMSUNG Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive

I still have the HP Deskjet 3845 Color Printer, HP Scanjet 4370 Flatbed Scanner, Creative Two-Speaker/Subwoofer set, Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo, and Sony SDM-S73 LCD Monitor from my old comp. The monitor's driver doesn't work with Vista, but the monitor is still recognized as a standard generic PnP monitor. Maybe for Christmas I'll upgrade it to a new one that's Vista compatible.
