Service Pack 1 Problems
Windows Update just installed Service Pack 1 for Vista for me, and now the keyboard and touchpad on my laptop do not work, I can only use my external ones. And when I shut down or restart my computer the screen just goes black but it never shuts down until I do it manually. And my internet seems slower... Does anyone else have these problems and/or know how to fix them? Thanks.

I would uninstall SP3 and reinstall it manually after downloading it. Be sure that anti-virus is disabled, anti-malware is disabled, all services are set to default settings, and that you have no malware infections.

You might also check forums at the manufacturer's web site, Some machines can not accept unaltered Windows Updates because the manufacturer uses their own, non-standard setups that can only be updated by the manufacturer. Dell and Compaq come to mind, but there are others.

"I would uninstall SP3 and "
This is Vista NOT XP, you have the wrong hat on at the moment.

Knowing what model of laptop would be nice, thanks.

I suggest uninstalling the touchpad software in "programs and features"

then go to device manager and uninstall the keyboard and touchpad if it is present, then reboot.

Reinstall the latest version of touchpad software from the manufacturers website.

There were quite a few programs that worked in Vista but will not function in Sp1 environment and I am willing to bet you have something old or an older version of something creating issues.
Check this out for some of them:

I note there are many utility programs that require updates such as Acronis Disk Director 10 early version not mentioned. Various Sonic recordnowmax that worked earlier do not and theses tend to be utilities and not software programs. There are also soundcard driver issues with SP1 so you need to see what else is not working as this may be related to your issues.
