Power options - How do I get my sleep mode back?
When I was using Windows XP, I had it set up so when I pressed the power button on the front of my case, after a couple of seconds, the PC would power-down. When I pressed it again, within a couple of seconds it was back up to the desktop again. I think it achieved this by powering down fans and hard-drive, while keeping the memory refreshed.
How do I do it on Vista?

I've tried Sleep and Hibernate. Sleep just shuts my monitor off. Hibernate does the same, but reboots my computer after a few seconds.

BIOS is set to support S1 & S3, same as it was under XP.

Can anyone help?

Have a look here:
Right click the desktop and select "personalize"
Select "Screen saver" and , at the bottom, "Change Power Settings"
On the new window, select the option, under the marked Plan, (Balanced..etc..) "Change Plan settings" and then "Change Advanced Power settings"
Nearly there!!
You can now scroll down and examine the various options. Try Power button and lid, I think it will offer what your are seeking.

Doesn't work
Think I haven't tried that? Every option (Hybrid sleep on/off included) doesn't work. The PSU is fine, it's a 500w OEM and I don't have any high power componenets.

For some reason it seems that your hibernate function is not working as it should.

You say that when you turn hibernate on for your power button and apply it and then you press your power button that your computer restarts instead of hibernating?

When I Sleep, the PC sleeps, then immediately wakes up. When I Hibernate, the monitor goes to standby. The only way to get a response from the machine is to soft-press the power button (press quickly). This makes the hard-drive spin down, the speakers pop (as if I've rebooted), and the pc restarts.

Vista changed the way it does a lot of things, mostly taking a step back from where they used to be, Kinda off topic: (one example, is that XP would spin down external hard drives, while Vista doesn't, which is REALLY a disappointment I use them a lot) On Topic: have you tried what DaveHC suggested a few posts up? this would at least restore the soft sleep button you used to have. I do know that pressing the power button while in sleep will shut it down, so that might be the problem you're having, i'm trying to remember where I saw the setting that let you choose a key to wake on (mines set to spacebar) i'll post it as soon as I find it.
