Solved: constant BSOD from NVIDIA drivers
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core processor. GeForce6100SM-M with the NVIDIA MCP61S. Since February, when Microsoft pushed out the new "optional" drivers for NVIDIA Graphics, my computer has been blue screening frequently.

Up to this weekend past, it has been about 10-15 times a day. However, as of Thursday or Friday past, I cannot get the computer to stay in Windows for any more than 5 minutes at a time without blue screening.

There have been multiple errors with the blue screens, and a different .dll file each time. I have uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers from the control panel, but the PC continues to blue screen. As you can imagine, I'm getting pretty frustrated.

I have tried to update with new drivers from NVIDIA, but get a message stating the driver package is corrupt before the install gets going.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Uninstall your drivers first before trying to install the new one. You may do it in Add/Remove Programs.

uninstalled the old drivers and tried to install the new ones. Still getting a message stating the installation package is corrupt after re-downloading it. Also, I do have Service Pack 1 installed with my Windows Vista Home Premium

the problem at this point has my PC virtually useless. I am unable to keep it loaded long eenough to do anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Use System Restore to go back to date prior to the updates. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then System Restore.

unfortunately I'm no longer able to do that. I tried that after my last post and I can't get to it without the PC rebooting. The last screen I got to was for System Restore or Start PC Normally. I tried System restore and it tells me there are currently no restore points. Very weird as every time I have installed anything, I watched it say it creating a restore point. Also, it is now telling me the registry is corrupt. Unless someone else knows something, I think I may place my backup HD in and let it run a diagnostic to try to fix the registry. any other suggestions

You aren't going to fix this without running checkdisk from recovery console and then XP repair.

very weird, I get to the point where it asks for the administrator password, and I simply press enter as there is no administrator password, but it tells me that the password is not valid. any idea why it would do this?

You are not reading this right. only the Recovery Console asks for Admin password so you need to choose new install there and go on to the second time you are asked to repair Windows and choose that "R".

when I go to http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/How-t...p-t131922.html, it says that when I get to the Welcom to Setup screen, to press R. I do that and I follow the instructions to go to the Recovery Console. In there, it asks which Windows installatoin I would like to log onto. There is only one option so I select that. Then, as directed on the above mentioned page, it prompts me to enter the Administrator password. The administrator account is the one I use normally and it has no password. However, when I leave it blank, it says that is not a valid password. Is there a way to get around this?

Oh ok for Recovery Console you should just click the mouse and put nothing in then it should go forward. No one has an Admin Password.

tried clicking once and then pressing enter, still invalid password. tried clicking multiple times and pressing enter, but invalid password. I was able to get a complet normal boot up into windows, but had a black screen (unable to see anything). I know I was in because on the laptop, I had my e-mail opened in web mail. When my PC loaded (despite not seeing anything), I heard my e-mail program "bing" when it finished downloading e-mail and when I checked the web mail again, all of the mail was gone from the server. Based on this, I believe a video card will resolve my problem. Any other suggestions in the mean time?

By the way, thank you so much for all the help to this point.

Download the ultimate boot cd and boot to it and run checkdisk on that under hard drive tools or hard drive diagnostics.
