Local Only Connection, cannot communicate with primary dns server (208.67.222.222)
My Compaq Presario C500 has not been able to complete an internet connection in a couple of months. It always says local only and when I try to diagnose the problem it says it cannot communicate with dns server 208.67.222.222. The laptop had no trouble getting a connection last week at my hotel but at home it still does not work. If someone could help me it would be awesome. Thank you!

DNS Error
I would suggest that your Internet may be down. Also I always put my router Internal IP as a DNS option as well as the external address. Also you may want to research the DNS IP you're provider is using, They may have changed there IP's and not notified you

How about telling us if you are using ethernet or wireless at home? When successful last week? If wireless at home, have you tried ethernet?

Please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

It is wireless (linksys), and it was successful at on a hotel's wifi when I was out of town. Yes, I have tried the ethernet hook up on my laptop that is on my desktop pc, same results.

Interesting; it looks like maybe your router is assigning an ipv6 address. I haven't seen those three lines between "Autoconfiguration Enabled" and "Link-local IPv6 Address" before.

If this has worked before with this router try resetting the router to factory default settings and reconfigure. If it never worked, see if there is an option in the router to turn off ipv6 stuff.

What is the router brand and model?
