cant read some words on vista screen
quite a few of the words on the web pages I am reading on my new laptop (which now has Vista) seem dulled/hard to read

Is there anything I can do about this??

I have altered my screen brightness but that doesnt seem to help

It says my laptop has a glass affect???

Is this anything to do with it??

any help appreciated

Right click somewhere on your desktop and select "Personalize"
Click "Windows colour and appearance"
If you have glass on, you will see a row of coloured squares
If you spot the words "Open Classic Appearance Properties For More Color Options", click them.
Otherwise, move to Step 3.
3. Choose Windows Vista Basic as the Color Scheme and click OK.

If that’s still too slow, try choosing Windows Standard or even Windows Classic in Step 3.

Try altering the focus for your monitor. I like to set the focus around 50 on my monitor. Also, enable Cleartype.
