Reinstalling Vista with XP installed.. kind of
Hi.

I dual boot XP and Vista, and it is working great. But i want to have vista x64 and not x86. Will there be any problems if i delete Vista, and install it on same partition (64 bit this time)? Alternately deleting Vista, installing XP again, and then, from XP upgrading or doing a clean install to Vista 64. I've had a lot of problems with the boot loader before, so I figured i wanted to be on the safe side.

Also, would it be possible just to insert the Vista CD while inside Vista, and doing a clean install from there?

In advance, thank you.
Mads, Norway.

Well if you want Vista to boot both, then you need to reinstall XP first and then install Vista again as the older OS must go first to use the Vista drive booter.

No you have to boot to dvd to install you cannot do it from within.

Just to make sure.

Going from
XP + Vista 32
then delete vista, and install XP on that partition
XP + XP
then going into the clean version of XP, and installing Vista 64 there
XP + VIsta 64
done

I don't have to mess with my first copy of XP, right?

Thank you.

Vista really has to be installed 2nd to boot XP also so if you simply install Vista 64 new that should do it without touching XP install.
