Good evening group was wondering can a person use an external harddrive to run xp on a vista operating system . thanks

what about running dual boot system

No, dual boot will not work from a External drive.
The BOOT process MUST be able to see ALL bootable devices. The USB external drives can NOT be seen until the OS is running.
