Somewhere in this setup you have to enter a user name and password to get on the net. Has this been done. Even if you were on the net last night it is possible that the setup did not get saved. What model westell modem are you using. Knowing the hardware will help all of us to help you.

I will call them and see, I think your right, but would it still work through the router then?

When a router is setup for the internet, your password and user name are stored in the router, therefore anyone that connects to your router by cat5 or wireless, does not need to enter any info. When you connect to the modem you have to sign on to the server, as it does not store the user name or password.

I called the phone company they had no idea so I called the ISP and they had me do a few things that I had already done they are writing up a ticket to see if they can solve it and then get back with me. So I am still open to suggestions

but then again i'm not a pro at reading those logs. the only thing I saw that was odd is explorer.EXE. In vista its not usually capitalized making me think it was tinkered with or even replaced. but that might just be the way hijack this renders stuff. I'm sorry I told you to call the phone company, in our town the phone company IS the ISP :P. I never got a straight answer to my question a while back: Have you tried new modems sent by the ISP on the line? have you tried YOUR* modem on their line?

*please look into DSL setups before you try this I do not know if this will harm your modems setting hooking it into a different location. Suggest this to a ISP tech support person before trying.

Well I had the ISP on the phone and I told them all the modems I used and that it was now plugged into mine by passing the router and they are lost two, they wrote up a ticket and said they would work on it and if they find an answer would get back to me, (I won't hold my breath. do you think I should put the HI jack log where someone can tell if explorer.EXE is right or not, think I will.

It could mean a number of things. xfile47, copy the error (res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm) and paste it into goggle. Then do a search. There are lots of hits out there.

I would also contact the ISP and have them test the connect. Does the modem show up? Is the connection good. If so, maybe the NIC is bad (I've had NICs die and they acted just fine). Have you done an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew? Power down BOTH the modem AND the pc. Reboot the modem and wait for it to full initialize. Then boot the pc. Also, can you ping anything from the pc (try www.yahoo.com or whatever).

Did you do a google search as I suggested? Did you follow any of the advice from any of the search results (I.E. have you turned off the Vista firewall, reboot and try to connect to the internet?)

Also did a google search the 1st thing before I bothered tech guys, and have redid the seach at least 4 times since then, alsot of people are having the problem although some are just certain sites but no one has an answer. Like I said, I have done all the obvious things

It's quite possible that LinkScanner, bundled along with AVG8 may be a culprit. Try disabling it, or uninstall AVG8 and reinstall without LinkScanner.

I didn't read where you flushed the DNS cache. Did you do that?
Open a command prompt....from the Start menu, select Run > In the box/"open field", enter cmd.exe

Type ipconfig /flushdns press 'enter'
