DaveA, thanks for your help!

Above, in my original post, are the list of programs from my computer.

Perhaps someone could look at those?

That's a full list of programs that are running? Where did you get the list from? It seems pretty odd that there was no security software pre-installed. At the very least you should be running an anti-virus program.

Obviously some of those applications are related to what I assume is an integrated web cam. Depending how this is configured and how you use it, you may want to leave those applications as they are.

Some people believe in paring a system down to the bare minimum, but realize that you sacrifice some functionality in doing so. Don't uninstall things you think you might actually need. PowerPoint Viewer is used to view PowerPoint presentations. If you remove this, obviously you can't view PowerPoint files. Only you can decide or determine what you need installed.

Did you look at that link I posted?
Using power point viewer for example, it can be set to run in the background always,(automatic start), or only when needed, (manual start) or disabled. Doesn't mean you have to uninstall it so it's not running in the background.
Hope that makes sense.
Don't let the Vista nay-sayers bother you. Some of them still run windows 98.

DoubleHelix--that is a list of programs that I got from the list of programs installed on my computer. I removed everything from the list that I knew for sure I wanted to leave on my computer. See below for images of the processes, etc that are running from the task manager.

katabby--I see what you mean about the powerpoint viewer. I guess I just thought it was odd to have that since I have the actual program. I guess the perform tasks, though. Would I use the msconfig process to keep it from running at startup?

Here are the images from my task manager of what is running when I start up my system:
