What were you doing when this happened... or has it always (from the time you bought it) been that way?

More information about your system would help us to help you.

well it was normal for a while and then i tried to update the OS using windows update and it just went black so i tried to restart the computer but it still didn't work; then i tried to reinstall it but still nothing. If anyone knows how to reinstall XP after vista is installed that would be great cause i't rather not deal with Vista!! thanks

solution
all you had to do was open the task manager then press 'file' and 'new' then enter 'explorer' and it would all work fine. all you would have to do then is scan for viruses.
