New Laptop Doesn't Recognize Disk
For no apparent reason, my new Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium no longer recongnizes my D:\ drive (DVD/CD-ROM).
I can't play DVDs or CDs. Getting message "insert a disk" when I just put a brand new disk in. I've tried it with 5 different disks.
Any suggestions as how to remedy this?

Thanks!

I find that my computer will recognize only certain brands of disks. Have had trouble with some of the cheaper ones. You might try a different brand and see if it works.

Go to control panel/ system> hardware>device manager. right click on the dvd/cd drive select properties, remove. then reboot your computer and let windows reinstall it (automatically). See if this helps any. If that doesn't go to the web site of the mfg. of your computer and update your dirver there.
