Solved: .dll files
I wasn't sure where this problem fit in, so I put it here hoping that it's general enough...

Recently I accidentally clicked on a .dll file and chose to "open with" a program. I didn't notice and now all .dll files are associated with this program. Is there any way to change it back to normal?

Thanks in advance

This utility helps you unassociate a file type quickly in your Windows Vista computer. Windows Vista does not provide a GUI option to unassociate file types.

I don't think that page will help with DLL files. You may have created a serious problem. All DLL files are associated with the program they are designed for, and not one specific.
Best way is to go to the Control Panel (Classic View). Select "Default Programs"
Select the second option "Associate a file type..etc." It will take a little while to come up with the list.
Scroll down to the Dll extension and double click it.
"Browse" and clear any entry you see in the bottom windows tab.
Dll back in the associate list should now say something like "no associate"

Thanks forthe replies
To davehc;
At the step where you suggest "Browse" and clear any entry seen in the bottom windows tab, how would I do that? I clear the bottom but it will not allow me to select Open.
Thanks

I believe the program will work to fix that.
It is only going to alter the key in the registry that associates
it with whatever program he chose. Other keys register DLLs.

Sorry. I have been thinking about your problem since I posted. To leave the association as it is, will not in any way affect your OS. I was thinkinf ahead for programs that definitely need correct associations in order to even run. All you have done is created a program association to view or edit (unwise!!) a .dll file.
I read on MS forums that you cannot "un" associate a program with the GUI, your need to use the command interface and be a "power" administrator. (Probably for your own good!)
WithhHumbleness I would say try Vista rookies suggestion. I had a look at it and it does, indeed, include the .dll option. If you run it and select .dll, and then go back through the steps I described, you will find it no longer has an associate.
For your convenience I have attached the program.
