Vista Memory Usage
Am wondering how I can lower the memory use on my vista 32bit laptop? Its making my games run slow and will do anything to make them run faster.

Thanks!

I had that problem on my old computer. I recommend you to switch to the windows Classic Theme, Change your background Image for a solid color, Change your your screen resolution and colors.

Those suggestions will only affect the RAM usage slightly. One of your main problems is all the applications working in the background while you play your game. Go to your Task Manager and then click the "Processes" tab. Those are all the processes going on that you can't see. They take up a large amount of your RAM usage. With no visible programs running and a solid color background, my computer uses 22% of it's RAM. That is 3Gb. So I am not worried. Also, the issue could be due to your graphics card or a number of other reasons. Instant message me on AIM at: Codybr92. On that, give me your CPU's specs and I can try to pinpoint the problem for you. Though "Irony_Pride"'s advice is helpful, it isn't the main culprit. And why would you give up your shiny black startbar for something like an old gray box lol. I will fool around with it all and see what I can do to improve mine, and maybe it will improve yours. Like I said, AIM me. I will talk to you then.

There's way too little information to offer solid suggestions here.
How much RAM is installed now? What's the utilization?
What programs/processes are running in the background?
What are the specs for the video card?
What are the system requirements for the game?

Vista needs more memory than previous operating systems. Simple changes like modifying the background or theme aren't going to make a significant impact. Disabling Aero might, but there are quite a few other factors.

Yeah. Vista is a RAM hog. You would MOST LIKELY be better off upgrading your graphics card, for around $100.00. Because I think that is your problem, and not the RAM. Because Vista comes default with around 2GB or 3GB or RAM. That should run most games fine. Even if Vista is a hog. Just check the games requirements, and then match them up to your computer's stats. See if your computer's stats are better than those by a longshot ( which they should be..unless you're trying to play Crysis ).....and then set the game's settings accordingly. Another problem may be your Internet Provider. If you are trying to run Crysis on all HIGH with a 2GB Laptop that runs on Vista, with Dial-up. you are not going to get anywhere. Next time you post here, try to provide as much information as possible. Thanks.
