Vista's sporatic 'Safely Remove Hardware'
My father just bought a new computer with Vista. I don't have any experience with Vista so I'm hoping one of you more knowledgeable types might help with this odd issue.

When he plugs in certain external hard drives or flash drives, only occasionally will the button in the systray to 'Safely Remove Hardware' show itself. Does Vista not need to 'Safely Remove Hardware' for some items or if there is a problem here?

Thanks,
JTN

How would I know - the PC came with Vista installed, I assume it has SP1, but I'm not sure.
