Disabling a dropdown (actually, 2 dropdowns)
HP, Home Premium, Desktop

I select an article or image from the web, then I select "save as". Then as I start typing a name for the article, I get this dropdown showing all the other files beginning with the same letters. How do I get rid of this dropdown.

Then if I have to browse for folders, I get another dropdown, only this time it has thumbnails. How do I get rid of the thumbnails.

Geez, enough dropdowns already. I rarely (if ever) use them.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The only option i can think of, is tools > options > privacy > untick "remember what i enter in forms"
Thats the only built in firefox form/search bar saver i know of
You may have to clear private data after that, for changes to take affect

Hi Arctik, thanks for the reply.
I don't have that checked and I have my history is set for 3 days. I don't even have to be on the internet for this to happen. If I "cut" a file from my desktop and had to browse to the receiving folder, I would get a dropdown of thumbnails with the contents of that folder, even if the thumbnails were turned off in that folder.
It seems to me that this would be a Windows Explorer problem. I'm guessing that the root of the problem is hiding somewhere in the search "feature".

This is from "caedes.net", a sooper dooper desktop background site.

OK, I'm back, here's a screenshot of the unwanted thumbs and the unwanted filename dropdown.

Ah ok.
Click on organise, then folder and search options.
From there, click the search tab, and untick the 'find partial matches' box.
This should work!

Well, I had high hopes but that didn't work. I even went into "indexing options" and excluded a couple of folders from the index, did a reboot, and it's still the same.

Any more suggestions. I'm willing to try.

I've always had it. It also happens when I use Internet explorer. I thought it was odd when I couldn't find anybody else having this problem when I Googled it. I did find one person that had it but after reinstalling the Vista, it was gone and he was wanting it back. Nobody could help him either.

I don't have another Vista computer handy to compare it with.

I do appreciate your time and effort. I've eliminated a few possibilities.

No problem, as you said at least we eliminated a few possibilities.
The only other option i can think of, short of reinstalling vista, is something to do with indexing. However, this i cant help you on as i have never really gone near it/modified any of it for myself.
Sorry we couldnt get it fixed, but im only a beginner, so maybe someone with a bit more knowledge will catch this thread and save the day
