edit (try this first if it applies) -- if there were any previous versions of Nero installed, use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility to remove any remnants and retest the issue. Do not use it to remove anything that can still be removed through Programs and Features or anything that you do NOT want removed >>

------------------------------
Open up the User temp directory (you can run
%temp% to do this) -- and look for any recent logs created with the form:
msi*.log
Upload one of those here as an attachment.
Note: if you don't see any installer logs you may have to enable the feature manually. These instructions apply to all Windows versions; if you need help with the registry edit, let me know:

Also, run
eventvw.msc and open the " Windows Logs > Application log"
In the right pane under "Actions" select "Filter Current Log"
Under "Event Sources" select "msiinstaller"
Click outside the drop menu to close that and then click "OK"
See what "msiInstaller" errors you are getting and select one or two of the recent ones click the "copy" (details as text) and paste that here.
Back in the other logs (Windows > System) see if there are any repeating errors associated with the attempted install.
Also verify that the source of Nero is either a download from their site or an install CD that is specfically said to be Vista Compatible.
Finally, if you have UAC enabled, disable it and reboot >>
