Lightbulb Solved: Techspert needed - HDD migration question
Scenario:
I have a Vista Home Premium 32bit OS. On a business owned computer. The HDD is aging. I need to "clone" the SATA - HDD to a new one. This will have to include bootability. And, the restoration partition. What Software should I use? Price is NOT an object.

Thank you,
BE66

Acronis for sure. I use it and have done what you request more than once.

Have you used it to migrate on SATA drives?
Thanks for your time.

I just migrated Vista from an IDE to a SATA tonight successfully with Acronis Disk Director Server. For some reason, Vista would not boot after the migration, but a quick run of Startup Repair fixed the problem (it was also to a larger partition).

It also needed to be re-activated after the migration.

I don't have SATA but but there is the conclusive answer from Elvandil.
I am trying to mentally figure out why it needed reactivation but maybe the new hard disk was recognised as a requirement to reactivate?
The start up repair also, but easy anough to fix.

This is the second time I've migrated this same OS. The first was IDE to IDE and a smaller drive partition. I'm not sure about why the first time didn't need any activation, either, but I tend not to care too much about these small "whys" since it was easily done in seconds over the internet. I also installed the SATA new, so there may have been some change limit passed.
