Laptop using alot of physical memory & lagging when multi-tasking?
Ok I have a Dell Inspirion 1420 I bought last year with Vista & 2GB's of RAM and recently whenever I have iTunes playing and I'm surfing the web if I open more than one webpage my music starts to lag and is choppy. This has never happened before as I used to listen to music and go on multiple websites with no problem. I noticed my physical memory usage is always at 1GB or more while computer usage is usually well below 50%.
Below is the tast manager and processes as well as hijackthis...do I have a virus or do I just need to change settings around ???

Slowness
make sure that you Check the option "Show processes for all users" in the task manager, It's showing what you are using but leaves out the system services/programs, Also you may want to take screen shots of the Task Manager when you have programs running and are experiencing the choppy performance. When in Task manager click on the CPU column a couple time to arrange programs by CPU usage, That will show you the cpu hog.

1 gb memory usage for Vista is normal.

If you are using wireless and sound is choppy or skipping:

If Disabling your wireless card - Using Fn+F2 or the wireless switch, improves audio playback, then try disabling wireless band "a". See below:

1. Start --> Control Panel --> Device Manager.
2. Expand "Network Adapters".
3. Right-click on your wireless adapter and select "Properties".
4. Go to the "Advanced" tab.
5. Select "Disable Bands".
6. Pull down "Disable 802.11a".
7. Click "Apply".

**Your settings may be different on the advanced tab. You may need to select "Wireless Mode" under property and then set the value to 802.1b/g.

...and your CPU usage is only 2%, so neither of the two are your problem.

Did you check computer temperatures?

I'm about to re-install Vista from scratch...but I'm trying to avoid that as I would have to copy my large iTunes library and download all my programs over again, which is time consuming!

As said before, it's normal.
Right now, formally, I have only Firefox, and Thunderbird open, and my RAM usge stands at 54%, little bit over 1GB of my 2GB of RAM.
You have to remember about all processes, and startups running in the background.
