Blue Screen (with .dmp)
Hey,

lately, i have been experiencing BSoD's, but only while playing IL2:Sturmovik (Forgotten Battles). I have the .dmp file, and this is kind of a desperate attempt, because i have no idea what else to do. I hope someone can figure out what causes the blue screens.

greets,
van Geest

Hard to draw any firm conclusion from one minidump -- but that particular one shows "portcls.sys" as the faulting driver.

This is a Microsoft Sound driver -- but it may be called by whatever sound card installation you are using.

I woulld look to see if there is an update available for the sound card drivers installed.

Probably caused by : portcls.sys ( portcls!memmove+2c0 )

Also look at the game vendor's site to see if there are any game updates that might address the problem.

You can also have a gander at these "google" hits for similar BSOD's >>

If you have an installed PCI card -- but did not disable the onboard sound card -- that could be an issue -- it should be disabled in the CMOS setup.

Only one sound card installation should be present in the Device Manager.

Right, i think this might be the issue. I had a PnP Audio Device (standard motherboard device, if i'm correct) and a Muse Lt Audio Device on. There was a little yellow triangle at the PnP device, which came with Vista SP1 and basically was the reason i bought a new sound card. anyways, i disabled it now, and i'll report back later if i'm still having issues.
Thanks for the fast reply

Yeah I would bet if the onboard card was enabled it would cause a problem. If not disabled there is still memory reserved for it even though it might not be loading all its drivers.

But wending my way through those Google hits I did find one person who reported a chipset update fixed his problem -- he might have been using the onboard device -- I don't know.

So, I installed the new chipset-drivers, but i think it may come in handy to post all of the recent dumps here, cause for some reason, with all the crashes lately, i don't have a lot of confidence this will solve it. anyways, i'll let you hear when i didnt have a crash for a while.

They are all identical to the other -- same faulting sound driver.
