Question Please help me
- I am a new Vista owner (about 3 or 4 months in) and my brand new computer has suddenly started acting very strange. Here's what it's doing.

1. It will act perfectly fine for any given amount of time, but then decides to randomly freeze up completely, leaving me no choice but to shut it off without shutting down windows first. This goes for any program, not just the internet.

2. When this first started happening, when I would restart it, the Microsoft loading screen would freeze up, causing me again to shut it down improperly. When it didn't, the black screen came up saying that a software or hardware had been added or removed that is causing this, but nothing has been to my knowledge.

3. Eventually, after this went on for about a day or two, getting it to sometimes work, and sometimes not, at the restart, the Recovery Manager came up.

4. Last night I decided to do that because I haven't added much to it in this couple of months so I wasn't losing anything important by reversing the hard drive to when I bought it. I thought for sure this would fix whatever had happened.

5. I was wrong. Once it returned my computer back to it's original factory state, I was trying to install my Webroot Anti Virus spyware (which by the way has kept it completely free of any and all viruses thus far) and it froze up on me, AGAIN. You can see how this would be frustrating.

6. I tried to restart, and it just keeps freezing and not starting normally.

Does this sound like something I or someone in my household has done unintentionally? Or is this a glitch from a new Windows? Has this happened to anyone else? Someone please help me!

Sounds like a hardware fault. Without a spec, not possible to say exactly what, but a screen freeze could be due to a graphic card heat buildup. do you have radiators or other hot items nearby? Or possibly its a fault. Personally if its still warrantied I would send or take it back, explain the problem, and let them sort it.

One quick question. If indeed it is a graphic card heat build up (which could be possible, there are lots of games played and our computer is right next to our television and xbox which might be generating a lot of heat) what can I do to fix that problem? Turn the computer off for a while, move it farther away from the television, put a small fan next to the cpu? I'm guessing that's the logical thing to do, but I didn't know if there was anything I needed to do to the actual computer system.

Speedfan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php can tell u the temp. in your machine. Also being around all of those heat giving devices will not help. You want it to be as cool as possible. But I do think it sounds like a hardware issue also and you should use the warranty.
