Vista; Audio device not installed message

I have discovered a solution to the problem. I reinstall the drivers and retore the systems default settings in the bios and this seema to solve the problem temporarily. After restarting the system a few times though the error reappears and I have no sound again.

Does anyone know of a permanent solution short of killing vista.
