Unhappy I know I got a problem but I don't know where to start
I'm using Vista home Premium on my Dell 1705 notebook. I can long into the internet (wired or wireless) and start browsing. After a few minutes I start getting error messages of "page not found" or "connection to the server was reset while the page was loading". I am sending from another Linux system that does not have that problem. I guess you could say I'm at my wits end.. One other thing, I've done a release/renew commands from ipconfig and that does not help. I can ping and do a trace route which works fine. I have removed all the software I put on for the last month and this problem started last week... Could this be some kind of virus? Spybot and Ad aware don't point anything out.

Thanks for any help

Does this problem affect other browsers, like firefox?

Have you done a hard reset of your router if you have one.

Try this if you use IE7

A very good malware scanner, download, install, update twice, scan

Mumbodog, thanks for the reply. Yes it happens with IE, firefox, thunderbird and almost any internet application except visualroute and a few others that seem to be using basically low level internet access such as ping or traceroute. sometimes I can browse for an hour then will get the condition other times it seems like it takes only 10 minutes. Most of the time I can start a download and it will finish then I can't seem to get anything else. Never seems to occurr in the middle of something. I don't use IE but just thinking back that has not worked in a long time maybe 3 months, I never thought anything about it since I use Firefox mostly.

Try this..
I suggest you play with your tcp-autotuning settings. See this url for details:

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2574

If autotuning is currently at a normal setting then try restricted first then highlyrestricted if you still have problems. Some routers need these settings.

good luck.

Try using the computer in Safe mode with networking...When the computer has Dell logo upon restart..Tap F8...choose Safe mode with networking...use IE there....if it works fine...you have a possible malware infection..could also be ur antivirus...try msconfig and disable your antivirus....moreover if the same thing happens in Safe mode networking, it is an OS issue requiring format reinstall
