No startup audio or flash audio revisited: HELP!
I have a long-lasting problem to which I have found no cure... now I am in a situation where I really need it resolved. Sound will not work for flash media in IE7 or in FF3. Also, I have no windows sounds. I have other media sounds (ie media player, itunes, movies, other non flash sounds on websites). I have performed every fix suggested on other websites including:

1) the wavemapper registry fix
2) the K-Lite Codec package
3) reinstalling audio drivers
4) un-install and re-install of FF3
5) un-install and re-install of Flash
6) registry clean up
7) ensuring sound card settings are good
8) checking sound mixer to make sure nothing is muted (I don't actually get a volume slider for FF/IE)

I am at a complete loss.

I use a Sony VAIO notebook. VGN-SZ650N it has a SigmaTel High definition audio codec. Windows Vista 32-bit Business. The problem exists whether I am using external speakers or not. All updates provided by the manufacturer have been installed, I am not much into tweaking things so I did not really make any weird changes myself.

If there have been any recent insights into this issue please let me know. It seems fairly common (slight differences in symptoms) and I have seen a number that are identical to mine, but none of the big companies seem to be addressing the problem, or they can not find a fix or something. Please help!

Thanks,

Chris

Same sound problem on Lenovo 3000 N200
I have exactly the same problem on my Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 laptop (Realtek High Definition Audio).

I've tried everything you've tried, including different versions of the drivers, and am getting to the point where I'm going to try reinstalling Vista until I find how this has happened.

It's extremely frustrating. Windows Media works fine. Playing wave files by double clicking them in C:\Windows\Media work fine but they don't play in the OS itself and sound from video played by the Flash player in Internet Explorer doesn't work either (i.e. videos on youtube etc). Video on Windows Media Player is fine though.

Midi files don't play either (can you confirm as you don't mention them).

So all the above appear to play (i.e. there are no error messages) but there's just no sound.

The audio driver looks ok as far as I can tell (everything says it's ok in the driver dialogs).

The K-Lite Codek Tweak tool says there are no problems either. I've also tried the Flash registry fix but that had no effect.

So this isn't some stupid thing where a mixer control is disabled, unless there's a mixer that doesn't appear for some reason and so there's no access to it. Anyone with any ideas, please post them here.

Cheers

Cliff
