Exclamation HP Laptop won't startup
Hi Everyone,

I'm posting because my HP dv1000 laptop (a hand me down from my father, so I'm unsure how old it is) refuses to start up. When I turn it on, the lights and fan work, but the screen remains black. I've tried seeing if it's visible at different angles and I've checked the ac adaptor, with no changes. I've also tried the F1-F12 buttons, and none of them are working.
I'm starting college soon, and would hate to have to buy another computer, so if anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Hi and welcome. Try removing the battery and run on just the power adapter and see if that makes a difference.

When you look at the specs there with a 1.5 P4, 512 meg ram etc...if you see no post at all, then it's more than a dead hard drive and that is not worth fixing most likely but if you take it to a shop it couldn't cost too much for an estimate.

I've tried running it plugged in and without the battery but that didn't work. I also tried pressing the F 1-12 keys but that didn't work either. Im starting to think that I'll have to take it in to get fixed...

Get an estimate first. A new, better laptop can be purchased for $400. Sometimes less on sale.
