Safe mode, hit F8 while computer is starting up. Then choose safemode from the menu. Then attempt to run the installation by going to computer, and selecting the cd/dvd drive, and double clicking on the setup file for Office 2007.

SP1 is a service pack, like you mentioned in post #1, and should be an option to download when you do windows updates, if not:

Turn off windows defender:

Not sure how much longer I'll be around tonight, but, in any event, I'll try to check on you in the morning. I'm currently out of the country on vacation

thanks. I'm currently in safe mode and it still won't work. I don't get the error 1935, though. I just get windows encoutered an error. it discovers the problem way quicker. weird.
so, what now?

Did you turn off defender?

Also, is there any other info to the "windows encountered an error" message?

What Vista version do you have? Is it a "standard" edition, or some special slipstreamed one?

Hey, Candy, is that BOTH countries that you are out of?
