Angry I can't install Office '07. Please help!
I'm trying to install Office Home and Student 2007 from a cd. After it loads about 75%, it stops and says "Error 1935: An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {10CD20D2-733E-4174-9D02-2C6C26163DA5}." Then it rolls back settings.

What I have already tried:
  • reinstalling windows vista
  • installing the new .net frameworks (3.5 also failed to set up)
  • remove corrupt files
  • repair .net 1.1
  • checked for correct date and time
  • tried to install Office from an online downloader
  • Took it to my university's Tech Services ppl, who were bewildered after spending 1 month on it.
  • downloading basically every service pack the windows site recommends for this problem.
I want to emphasize that I have read ALL the windows/microsoft website's suggestions for this problem, and they have failed.

What am I missing? why does it fail?

thank you for working with me on this annoying challenge.

I have no idea why it fails, but have you considered that the CD may be bad? Have you tried to install it on another PC (you don't have to activate it)?

So, just to clarify, this is the 3rd computer that you are trying to install this one? It's a 3 user license.

Did you try to run the install by right-clicking on the installer program and selecting Run as Administrator?

And that would be a "yes" to which question?

to both; I tried to right click and run as administrator (failed) and this is the 3rd computer to get this 3-user license disk installed. the first two worked fine, but mine is failing repeatedly.

Do you have virus programs running? Or other programs that prohibit registry changes? Another idea, can you copy the contents to a folder on your desktop, then install from that?

thank you ACA for your suggestions, but unfortunately i just tried them both and I still get error 1935...setup failed. I turned off all my anti-virus, windows defender, windows security etc, too.

What should I try next?

Can you post a Hijack This log so we can see what is running/starting?

If you don't know how to do that, see the very first thread in the malware removal forums, but, post the log BACK HERE.

Windows defender is still starting up.......

Another thing you might try, a safe mode installation.

Another thought too, you might install SP1.....not sure if that will matter or not....but, can't hurt, since you've recently formatted.

EDIT: I see you mentiond service packs above...but........
