Hi. . .

Thanks for perfmon - HTML was just fine. DXdiag can just be saved as a text file - look toward the bottom of the screen for the save option.

Perfmon showed a few reasons that would cause slowness. Your system has 512mb installed RAM. The minimum for Vista is 1gb. I recommend at least 2gb. The lack of RAM is slowing your system down by using virtual memory (page file) to make up the difference. You should look into upgrading the RAM.

Perfmon also indicated that the OS drive c: has 4gb (12%) of free hard drive space remaining out of 35gb. You should run the Cleaning Manager followed by a defrag.

Clean Manager - http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...139d91033.mspx

Disk defrag - http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...598e31033.mspx

Also check the Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) - it reported your HD audio and TV rmote devices as disabled.

As for the crashing - are you speaking of BSODs or app crashes like MS messenger constantly failing? What is likely happening now is your updated-for-SP1 program installations like the messenger apps are clashing with the old Vista drivers in your system. The same would be true with your device drivers. They both are in need of updates.

msinfo32 shows your network adapter as:
Code:
Adapter Type Ethernet 802.3
Product Type GlobeTrotter HSxPA - Network Interface

The Device Manager s/b consulted for confirmation of the dates listed. msinfo32 is not the most reliable source for device driver dates. It is recommended that Vista SP1 be installed prior to installing driver updates. Here is the Acer driver site for the UK -
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...pire_t180.html

Finally - SP1 - there is a good chance that it did not come in with the 29 Windows Updates b/c of the space issue or some of the 29 were prerequisite updates. SP1 must be installed by itself and won't be offered for installation until certain conditions exist. Here are 2 MS kb's on SP1:

I've started downloading SP1 , but its a massive 434mb and there is no way im gonna be able to download it because my pc will have crashed in roughly an hour , and since my pc speed has slowed to a crawl since i started doing these scans etc.....the download speed is positively tortoiselike. I've cancelled it again.

None of this seems to be solving my BSOD problem , and i fear i may be resigned to trying to find an answer at another forum JC.
Telling me what drivers i have ( audio , video etc.... ) may be satisfying your curiosity , but its not solving my problem as my pc is still crashing .... im still asking for help , as i still stand to lose a lot of important and irreplacable data if i cant get this resolved.
Im sorry if i sound blunt , but i've been here before and i ended up with a corrupt hard drive that i couldnt access , and my soul was destroyed.

My pc was fine a few weeks ago , no BSOD , no slowness , and i had no need of SP1 , but now its worse than it was.....i just need the BSOD to stop and the speed the same as it was. I cant make music with it in this state , and that is the only reason i have a stupid windows pc anyway. Why cant they just work and do what they're supposed to !

If you dont think you can help resolve this , please just say so i can look elsewhere.

not happy.

I assure you there is no curiosity being satisfied here. One cannot be curious about that which is already known. Your BSOD bugcheck is a rather common one. There is not much here that I haven't encountered before with thousands of others.

You have now mentioned 2x in this thread about going elsewhere. It is a free country and this is not a mandatory program. Volunteers such as myself give our time to help others. I can tell you that the number and expert level of those that have posted to this thread will be extremely difficult to assemble elsewhere at no cost to you. If you were to call Microsoft Corporation themselves, they would most definitely tell you that SP1 must be installed.

I stand by my recommendations. SP1 must come in to your system at any cost. Otherwise your system will continue to degrade. The driver updates must be done as well as the RAM upgrade.

There are 7 Vista systems here. My 4 kids 7,10,14,18 have no difficulties whatsoever w/ their daily use of Vista. It will work for you too. But not without following the steps provided to you in this thread.

I am sorry you find this difficult. I have tried to cover all basis and have provided detailed instructions outlining the steps that I believe should be taken for you to regain control of your system.

my pc is in a worse state now.

when i click on anything.....anything at all.....it takes anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds for the computer to respond.
It wasnt like that before. All i had was BSOD. I deliberately stopped the automatic updates because every time ive added updates in the past , things have gone from bad to worse.

I cant download SP1 because my system is crashing roughly every hour because of the gt76ubus thing , or driver less or not equal , or both. Thats what im trying to say.
I need those problems fixed before i can download SP1./
I cant backup.....i cant defrag.....i cant do anything while its crashing.

I deleted stuff from the drive and there is now at least 6GB , and its STILL crawling , and it wasnt doing that before. Im not exaggerating when i say its actually taking about 10 minutes from bootup to desktop , and it wasnt like that before.

Thank you for the links. I don't see any solutions posted on either and they are from early June 2008 - 5 months ago. I also count a total of 3 postings in one. Not much in-depth study going on. SP3 is XP as you may know. If this means that the product is not compatible with XP, then it definitely would not be compatible with Vista.

Do you have another source for Internet connectivity? I see you do have Ethernet.

The faulting module listed as the probable cause of the BSODs -
gt72ubus.sys Tue Oct 09 07:53:15 2007

msinfo32 shows:
Code:
Name [00000023] GlobeTrotter HSxPA - Network Interface
Adapter Type Ethernet 802.3
Product Type GlobeTrotter HSxPA - Network Interface
Service Name GT72NDISIPXP
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\gt51ip.sys (2.0.3.14, 103.63 KB (106,112 bytes),
13/11/2007 15:50)
This is one of the drivers that I mentioned s/b updated.

Option NV driver support web site, Belgium
http://support.option.com/support/faq.php

USB issues were widespread prior to the release of Vista SP1. As for the speed of your system, I believe it to be related to the low RAM. Your WERCON shows MS Messenger crashing continuously starting back in December 2007. MS Messenger slows down my 4,000 mb Vista x64 system so much so that I have to kill the process during the running of kernel memory dumps. I suggest that you un-install it as I believe it is still probably crashing.

I also found this messenger - not sure what it is right now -
SweetIM c:\program files\sweetim\messenger\sweetim.exe Public HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I would also suggest that you boot into SAFEMODE w/ Networking and try the Internet connection there. You may find things more stable. You could then try to download Vista SP1 stand-alone there. But only install in regular boot-up if all pre-requisite Windows Updates are in.

I do hear you that no BSODs a month or so ago. But the lack of Windows Updates w/o doubt is a contributing factor to the BSODs. Please note that win32k.sys was listed as a probable cause in the 0x1000008e BSOD. This c/b related to the 2 year-old drivers from NVIDIA or to the aging win32k.sys (Mirosoft GUI) module itself.

I can't stress the importance of the need for SP1 enough. You have added many items to the system, some of which may very well be written with SP1 in mind.
