Exclamation Computer to Computer Network - How ???
Okay...

RE: Vista Home Premium / 32 Bit / SP1

I'm just trying to setup my 2 laptops so they can share info --- on my wireless network.

I went to:

Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > *In Left Column* > Setup a Connection or Network

However, after following those steps ^^ the only "computer to computer" option is the one called AD HOC - for computers that are 30 feet or less from one another.

How can I share info between the 2 computers... further than 30 feet apart?

Thanks

What are you trying to do? You first mention "my wireless network" from which I inferred (or would assumed be the better word?) that you have a router and both computers connected to it.

Then you mention "AD HOC" from which I assumed you were trying to set up an ad-hoc wireless network.

Then you mention the "30 feet or less" from which I assume that maybe you are trying to use something like bluetooth.

Are any or none of my assumptions correct?

Sorry to be confusing :/

I have a wireless router. The router is literally a "Hot Spot" .... meaning, anyone can pull in front of my house and get a wireless signal. i.e., not secure (yet).

So, I don't have any particular computers "hooked up" to my router. I just let my pc find a signal, and voila. It picks up in the "Hot Spot."

What I'm trying to do is get 2 computers in my home to share info within the Hot Spot. Share photos, files, etc.

Here's a screenshot that might better explain my predicament. When trying to setup a network to share info between computers, I have these options:

If both PCs are able to access the internet through the same router they are already on the same (Local Area) Network.

File sharing on Vista is a bit different (and probably easier) compared to XP.

Go into the network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel or from the Network icon in the Notification Area. Your network must be designated 'Private.' In the Sharing and Discovery section you can configure File sharing, Public folder sharing (similar to Shared Documents in previous Windows), Printer sharing and Password protected sharing.

You must uninstall or properly configure any non-windows firewall (security suite).

It could be just a bit confusing because you do want the Network to be private but the easiest folder to share is the Public folder as it is aleady designated as a shared folder. So in the Private network you want public folder sharing turned on. Then with File sharing also turned on in the target computer, you will hopefully have no problem accessing the Public folder. Once that's working you can make other folders shared as you require or want.
