Please see post #21. Did you right click within this window and follow the instructions in post #21? If you did, then we are both out of luck.

Mumbodog, Noyb is correct: I am using VISTA, so your suggestion won't work. There is simply no stereo mix option in the Recording panel of the Sound panel.
Strange, I am using Vista and I have it? I did have to unhide it.

Mumbodog,

I see this! Does anyone have a clue as to why Mumbodog has the Stereo Mix option on his sound recording panel while I do not?

Inquiring minds would like to know!

In control panel, switch to "classic" view. "Sounds" will appear, from which you will have a "recording" tab.

I use Vista Ultimate 32 bit and Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, which has audio capture. I use the integrated audio chip on my ASUS M2N - E SLI Deluxe motherboard.

It seems that all of us that have Stereo Mix - have Realtek Audio chips/drivers.
And you have a Creative chipset

I think I'll buy a Realtek sound card and see what happens!

G:
Does your computer have an audio chipset on the motherboard? If so:
1. uninstall your add in card software;
2. turn off the computer;
3. remove the add in card;
4. turn on the computer.
5. enter the bios
6. enable the integrated audio, save changes, exit bios;
7. boot into Windows;
8. Test.

Not all realtek audio drivers support stereo mix.

Maybe this is a solution.

Have you uninstalled these programs?
"Total Recorder (HighCriteria) and at Ashampoo (regarding their software Ashampoo Music Studio)

Roemer Software program Easy Hi-Q Recorder"

It is possible one of them disabled Vista's stereo mix feature.

Also found a post about Dell Vista PC's with this issue, it is reported by using the XP sound driver (if available for you model of Dell) you can get the Stereo Mix to show up.

I had the same problem with my new Dell vista with Realtek integrated sound. I don't know if this will work with other sound cards, but I can now record anything my sound system plays using Audacity, Audiograbber, Cool Edit 2000 or anyother recording software. Try this link. http://torley.com/how-to-record-mic-...a-with-realtek

I hope this helps.

A9.:
Interesting. Good to know.

Seems like Dell is a common member.
Edit: "is a common component to this issue. "

Go to Dell and input your model of dell and select drivers and downloads, be sure the OS selected in the dropdown box is XP, then download the XP sound driver and install it in Vista.

Not all Dell models have XP drivers.

Thanks.

My understanding, the problem is with me, not you, is that if the PC runs Vista, if you install the XP driver from Dell, for a particular Dell PC, the "Stereo Mix" becomes available. Am I close?
