Issue: I am having trouble opening Quicktime and Quicktime Pro for Windows Vista.
System: I recently upgraded to Quicktime Pro for my Del Inspiron 530, Intel (R) Core(TM)2 CPU 2.00GHz
2.00 GB RAM, 32-bit Windows Vista, with service pack 1. iTunes (8.0.2.20) appears to be working, though frequently crashes and sometimes runs slow.
Issue Details: iTunes works, but I can not open a Quicktime window by starting the application. Upon starting Quicktime, I can tell that Quicktime starts because a button appears in the Vista system toolbar, but no window opens. If I mouse over the Quicktime button in the toolbar, a preview window appears, but I can not open the window. If I right click, I have the option to close or minimize the quicktime window, but the maximize option is dimmed. (The option to move is available, which gives me a cross haired shaped cursor which seems to have no effect, except to then casue the move option to dim upon right clicking the toolbar button.) If I run the task manager, It says Quicktime is running. I can not "switch to" the window, but I can force the application to quit.
I can open Quicktime by right clicking a file (such as an .avi file downloaded from a mini DV sony hnadycam using Roxio) and choosing "open with" quicktime. From this window, all the Quicktime Pro options are available, such as open a new window or "save file as". I am able to save the opened movie as quicktime movie and have successfully imported the quicktime movie to iTunes (my original goal).
The same issue occur after a new install of Quicktime, before Quicktime Pro is activated.
This appears to be an "Inspiron 530" issue, as Quicktime Pro works perfectly on my HP laptop Pavilion Entertainment PC (Vista)and Del PC desktop (model unknown) at work, recently upgraded to Vista.
