Exclamation Blue screen problem
Please help! I have been having this problem for days... I leave the computer on at night so it can run a virus scan and do updates. Every morning when I log on to my account I get a message that the computer was shut down and had to restart- below are the details: I have a 5 month old DELL XPS 420 running Windows Vista home premium. (still under warrantee) I called Dell and their solution is to re-install the OS... I would like to avoid this and have been searching Google to find what is causing the problem with no avail. Others with similar minidmp problems have reinstalled the OS and still have the problem. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. BTW, there is no stop error message- below is all I have to work with:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 9f
BCP1: 00000004
BCP2: 00000258
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini011009-01.dmp
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-10368715-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER9D99.tmp.version.txt

Read our privacy statement:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

**I get these messages every morning- with a slight variance on the "files that help describe the problem"...(I think the first line just describes the date of the Minidump)

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini011609-01.dmp
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-8024972-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER8612.tmp.version.txt

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini011709-02.dmp
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-17669234-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WERABDD.tmp.version.txt

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini011809-02.dmp
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-5182524-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Cindy\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2472.tmp.version.txt

I click to forward the message to Microsoft to see if there is a solution- but there are none. Luckily at this point the system is stable while I am working on it- it is when I am away from the computer and it is basically idle that the problem occurs. I would like to resolve the problem before it gets any worse.
I thank you for any suggestions to fix this problem.

hi ok from what i can find out this could be either a virus problem so it is worth running your antivirus malware etc it may also be a hardware issue so updating your drivers and lastly it may be some software conflict ie something you have installed that would mean going through them one by one and removing and reinstalling to try to find the culprit now since you are still under warranty this is as much as you can do without invalidating it so get back in touch with dell and tell them you want them to fix it even ask for a replacement you never know it may get them moving but in order to save a little time here is the link to drivers etc http://support.dell.com/support/down...T_9200_XPS_420

Check the 9F links here >> http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x9f

There is a Vista update for this that was included in SP1 -- do you have SP1 installed?

I think I have also seen one case where there was a non-windows driver faulted. Possibly a USB device or networking driver.

If you are allowing the system to go on Standby -- you might try disabling that.

Uplioad the minidumps and I will see if there is an obvious non-Windows cause for it >>

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a non Microsoft driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

Blue Screen Problem update
Thanks for the replies. I had a few drivers that needed to be updated which i did. I had the latest Windows updates. Some additional information - I have 3 external hard drives on this computer; 2 USB (a Seagate and a WD) and 1 firewire (Maxtor One Touch plus). I have attached some of the more recent minidump files. I appreciate your help!
Attached Files
File Type: zip dumpcheck.zip (217.2 KB, 16 views)

I can't tell from the debugs what device is causing the problem since it consistently identifies a core system memory management module as the faulting driver. This is usually misleading.

I would try removing the firewire drive first and testing, and if it still occurs -- the other USB devices.

It's conceivable that you may be overloading a USB port with multiple drives.

About the same time the problem started (within a week) I installed additional memory- do you think that may be part of the problem-- could the memory possibly be bad?
Again, I thank both you and Joeten for your time and help.

anything is possible and it wont hurt to check so take them out and put in one at a time also test the sockets for the ram the same way may as well try to rule out as much as possible

I rather doubt it's the memory but I have been here long enough to agree "anything's possible".

I would focus on the attached drives and the way in which you have them connected to their ports. Avoid using external hubs, especially unpowered ones.
