Where is your router kept? In the same room, a diff. room or even a diff floor? Maybe you need to relocate it to get a better signal so that DHCP can supply an IP address to get you onto the network.

Are you sure that your comp is trying to connect to the correct router? Right click on the network icon in the lower right hand corner, click on connect to a network and make sure it is actually trying to connect to yours by default. If there is an another (unsecured) signal that your comp is seeing and trying to connect to what you describe is very possible. If so, connect to your network and set it as default for home.

i had a problem sort of like yours and i think i just figured it out. my computer was set to automatically turn off my wireless driver to save energy. after i turned that off it has been working fine. you can turn it off by going into your device manager, right clicking on your wireless driver and selecting properties, then the power management tab.
