update while in sleep mode?
Finally getting DSL service after a long time of dial up. What I want to know is if your computer is in sleep mode, does the internet still update components and download components. Its supposed to be always on but would like to keep an eye on what is coming in and out. Expecially in. Don't want to shut it off cause it would be a pain to turn on and off every couple of hours. Lots of usage at home. If you have things set for automatic downloads, I assume it will download by itself but in sleep mode? Nagging question.

Not quite sure what your concerns are but...DSL and Cable are "always on", meaning that you only have to turn on your computer, load your browser and you're off and running. Unlike dialup where you need to turn on the computer, load your brower, dial a number, make a connection etc.
You can safely turn the computer off when not in use. You can use Sleep mode or Hibernate if you wish. You can also alter the setup of your system to either download and install operating system updates automatically, download and then ask for your permission to install or ask your permission before it downloads or installs. Many software installations will allow similar arrangements. Adobe for instance or your anti Virus, anti spyware programs for example.
