Hi and welcome to techguy.org.

Would it be possible for you to retrieve the setup logs c:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log and c:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log from that mahine, then attach them on your next post for analysis?

If your doing an upgrade install with updates from the internet then make sure the following services are started;

Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Event Log
Application Management

To do this;

1. Click START.

2. Select RUN.

3. Type services.msc Then click OK or Press Enter.

4. Double Click Automatic Updates and check that its Startup type is set to Automatic and that the service is started.

5. Double Click Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and check that its Startup type is set to Manual and that the service is started.

6. Double Click Event Log and check that its Startup type is set to Automatic and that the service is started.

7. Double Click Application Management and check that its Startup type is set to Automatic and that the service is started.

8. Then try to Upgrade to Windows Vista again and see if the issue still occurs.

All the services are setup properly and I tryed looking for the setuperr.log but no luck. BTW, techservices24, i've already looked at that article and it doesn't work. Remember I am upgrading from XP.

hi i found this
Re: Error Code 0x8007000B
At what point are you getting this error code because basically it means -

0x8007000B
-2147024885
COR_E_BADIMAGEFORMAT
The format of the DLL or executable being loaded is invalid

Clear out your temporary internet files, also clear out the softwaredistribution\downloads
folder in case there's corruption there and try WU again after a reboot. Hopefully that
will clear out any corruption. Wouldn't hurt to run chkdisk and defrag either.

To remove WU downloads from the temporary folder:-

Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the Download folder
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the Download folder.
Delete all contents of the Download folder.
Close the window.

Start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any downloaded updates

So it turned out to be corrupt media instead? Why is it that some geeks just jump in and get straight to the tech, without considering the little things?

Ahh well, at least it's working for you now.
Take care and Happy Computing.
