Unhappy Windows Vista Ultimate BSOD in infinite loop at startup
First of all, hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum

Second, I've been having some really annoying problem since a few weeks, and I've already posted this on another forum, but they don't quite seem to be willing to lend me a hand PooPoo me...

Anyways, here's my problem:

Since a few weeks (more like a month and a half) I've been having an annoying problem with my laptop. Sometimes there's no problem at all, but usually when I boot my laptop I get a BSOD, the laptop reboots and most of the time it repeats the process, once, twice, several or infinite times. Sometimes booting in safe mode and rebooting in normal mode can get Vista booted, but I've had occassions where it doesn't work. Also, that is just a temporary solution to get my system booted.
The BSOD dissappears way too quickly to be able to note it all down, so I don't have that information.... what I do have is the error screen you get when Windows has finally booted which says "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown". The window says:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 2067

Additional information about the problem:

BCCode: 1000007e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: E2096045
BCP3: BDB47848
BCP4: BDB47544
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:

C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini041709-01.dmp
C:\Users\Kissa\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-59873-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Kissa\AppData\Local\Temp\WERB75C.tmp.version.txt

I also think I saw the system mentioning something like I haven't shut it down properly, although I don't see what I could've done wrong by doing it the usual way...

I know that a lot of those BSOD's are due to drivers acting up, but I have only installed them right after I installed Vista in September/October last year... I've never done an update either, so I don't see why that could be the cause.

I also know that some BSOD's are caused by Virtual Disc emulation tools like Deamon tools and PowerIso which are both on my system as I like to experiment with old(er) operating systems, which I have lying around of my previous systems, on OS emulators like VMWare. I just hate using the DVD-player of my laptop because half of the time it makes such a dreadfull sound....

I've recently done a complete system defragmentation with Smart Defrag, ran a complete virusscan, done a disc cleanup etc

I do frequently let the laptop run over the night, but it can't have been overheated as I always close the lid.

That's all the info I can come up with.... for now ... so any help on the mather would be highly appreciated

Greets,
Kissa

Hi -

The bugcheck from your posted BSOD -

0x7e = thread generated an exception
0xc0000005 = the exception = a memory access violation

I see that a mini kernel dump was produced - please get it. Copy all dump files from c:\windows\minidump to your documents folder (or other). I also need 3 system info files to start with -

msinfo32 - saved as an NFO file
START | type msinfo32 | save in default NFO file format - you'll see the NFO file extention when you go to save it

dxdiag - DirectX Kernel Diagnostics - save as TEXT file
START | dxdiag | bottom-center "Save all as text...."

driverquery - TEXT file
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe| paste the following (to paste into DOS screen,right-click at top of DOS screen, select Edit, select Paste):
Code:
driverquery /v > "%userprofile%\documents\!_drivers.txt" & driverquery >> "%userprofile%\documents\!_drivers.txt" & start notepad "%userprofile%\documents\!_drivers.txt"
Zip up the dumps, the NFO and 2 text files and attach to your next post.

Regards. . .

Thank you for your reply on the other forum I've been waiting for days without even a reply telling me which files could be useful.

I've uploaded the zip file as you requested, although I'd much rather use rar files.

I hope you can clear up the situation for me

Hi -

All 6 BSODs had identical bugchecks -

0x7e w/ 0xc0000005 exception code = a memory access violation by a kernel mode app (driver).
All 6 named the NT Kernel as the probable cause.

BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e2096045, bdb47848, bdb47544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )
BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e2099045, bdb47848, bdb47544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )
BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e2064045, bdb4b848, bdb4b544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )
BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e2099045, bdb53848, bdb53544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )
BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e2061045, bdb4f848, bdb4f544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )
BugCheck 1000007E, {c0000005, e209a045, bdb43848, bdb43544} Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!PpvUtilCallAddDevice+19 )

The NT Kernel is not the cause here. A 3rd party driver is most likely responsible. Right now there is no way to tell which driver is misbehaving. I went through the loaded driver list and found some that are good candidates. Go to Dell's website and see if there are updates.

There are driver updates for video, too -

I believe this ti be your system's driver download page -

http://support.euro.dell.com/support...n&catid=&impid=

You can go to Dell UK driver downloads and enter your service tag to be sure - http://support.euro.dell.com/support...=uk&l=en&s=gen

If you don't know service tag, run Belarc - look top-right of page -- http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

I would normally have you run the driver verifier and hopefully it would flush the unknown driver out of hiding. But I think the d/v would pick up some of the above mentioned as well. So, I suggest they be updated or devices removed that they belong to. I have seen VMware cause quite a few BSODs. The wifi also is a biggie.

Update any and all you can even if not on the list. Please see my PM re: 'other forum' - I have no record on my systems here of running dumps for you anywhere.

The dbug logs are attached.

Regards. . .

Thx for your reply

I'm not suprised to see my NVidia on the list nor my WLAN card.... My NVidia likes it to crash during games sometimes, and sometimes when I boot I get a "WLAN card has encountered a problem blah blah..." but restores itself right after I click close, so these ones are the first one on my list for the update.

Also I'm not suprised to see Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator on it as it's an old version, but any newer version of Roxio doesn't work for me. I don't like the interface and I don't like the way it works.... and it makes the most weird CD's/DVD's possible :P

But I didn't quite expect VMWare to be on the list, but you never know, it's Windows after all

As for my service code, I know where to find it as my grandmother is experiencing problems with her Dell printer (where I need her code), but the info she gave me is really too little to even start solving the problem.

Anyway, I'll do as you've recommended and will keep you updated

Greets,
Kissa

It's not that I hate Roxio, because the version I'm using (version 6) is fitting my needs perfectly.... I just don't like the newer versions

Hi -

If problems persist, the driver verifier can be of help.
START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe | Run as Admin | type verifier & hit enter - the Verifier screen will appear | do the following:
Code:
1. Select 2nd option - 'Create custom settings (for code developers)'
2. Select 2nd option - 'Select individual settings from a full list'
3. Check these boxes -
• Special Pool
• Pool Tracking
• Force IRQL checking
• Deadlock Detection
• Miscellaneous Checks
4. Select last option - 'Select driver names from a list'
5. Click on the Provider heading - sorts list by Provider
6. Check ALL boxes where Microsoft is not the Provider
7. Click on Finish
8. Re-boot
If the Driver Verifier (DV) finds a violation, it will result in a BSOD. After re-boot, you may not be able to log on. If so, boot into SAFEMODE (select Last Known Good Configuration or System Restore). To see the status of Verifier - type verifier - select the last option on the first screen - "Display information about the currently verified drivers..". To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot. Keep the verifier running as long as possible, even if the status screen appears clear.

If you get a BSOD, get the verifier-enabled Vista mini dump file from c:\windows\minidump, zip it up & attach to next post. I will continue to review your files as the answer may be in them.

Regards. . .
