Well to experiment with this will be good, but I don't know that I want to go out and spend about $300 right now replacing printers, none of three printers I have in this house have 64 bit drivers available for them and compatibility won't make them work either. The one that hurts most is my Canon Laser MF3110, not the newest thing out there but it serves me well and does work on the 32 bit version.

The ONLY thing I have struggled with on any 64-bit OS is my DVB-T USB dongle. Unfortunately, there are no 64-bit drivers for it.

I have had no problems with any software or hardware (other than the dongle).

The RC1 version of Windows 7 is, as you rightly say, a lot more stable than the beta. I'm running it with 4GB RAM, but it works just as well with 2GB.

Remember, though, that the Windows 7 OS will begin shutting down every 2 hours from March 10, 2010 (I think) and will stop functioning a few months later, but it is nice to know that we can play around with it for that time!!

Glad you got it sorted and that I could be of help.

Hardware wise the only problem I have with 64Bit is my printers. But then again I had the same problem with my Laser Printer when I tried the 64 Bit Version of XP a while back, and with Linux. ANd by the time march rolls around I will have purchase what ever they are going to call the Ultimate edition. I am actually saving my pennies and soda cans (recycle) as we speak. I at least am going to have to spend a small amount on a newer inkjet printer as well.

Gonna stop fretting on the printers and play with 64Bit anyway.

After I get the 6.8 million my email address has won in the Nigerian Lottery, I am gonna go out and buy a brand new Color Laser, Build 3 brand new Computers, add a dedicated Computer room/office to the house I am gonna build and buy every version of Windows in Both 32 and 64bit, then......Oh yeah I forgot Nigeria doesn't really have a lottery.

Well after playing around with the 64Bit Version for a few days, I was not able to do anything productive with it. I can write the documents I need but I have to save them then reboot to 32 Bit to print them. So I uninstalled 64Bit. Works great except the drivers issues.

Would it be auspicious of me to suggest that you upgrade your printer?

It seems that this device is your only problem and so it would be a profitable addition for your requirements.

If you do decide to go with a new printer, it is highly likely that there are 32 & 64bit drivers/software to go with it.

64-bit is the way forward. I'm currently playing around with it and have experienced few problems - I've now purchased a new TV card and it works perfectly. The best thing to do is find a device you want and then search for OS compatibility - is it available in 64bit, etc.

Good luck

it is 2 printers that would have to be replaced. And a new replacement for my laser printer is going to cost me a couple hundred that I do not have right now. I would replace all three With a color laser and a good photo printer otherwise. And while 64Bit may be the way of the future it seems that software and hardware companies are being slow in embracing it. So for right now, I am more than satisfied with the 32Bit version of Win 7even though I know that I am going to have to put out the cost of that when the time comes.

Hang on - what Printers are we talking about here? I think the one(s) you have are fairly ( if not very) good printer - surely there is support for 64bit????!!!!!

I have a Canon PIXMA iP6220D - not the best it's class, but there is 64bit support through windows update at least

Can I please ask what is the point in this dual boot?
Just saying that if 2G is the minimum RAM requirement then my laptop with 768M is running it very very well.

IS your laptop running Win7 32 or 64bit? 1 Gig is the recommended Minimum for 32 bit and 2 gig is the recommended minimum for 64bit. At least from what I read at Technet. That doesn't necessarily mean it will not run with less.
