Brand new laptop bluescreened less than 2 weeks after getting it.
hi all (long time no see )

I've been given a brand new sony company laptop, but about 3 days ago it blue screened when I tried to boot it up. It gets to the "Welcome..." but bluescreens before you get to enter user details.

-Running Windows Vista SP1, and can only boot in safe mode.

-Something to note is that it gets updates through a VPN, and with tech guys messing around at the office if it goes down while updating it could be an issue.

-I've tried a system restore but to no avail.

-In safe mode, using problems + solutions, I've got the following information:

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6
Locale ID: 2057

Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be available)
Mini051609-99.dmp
sysdata.xml
Version.txt

View a temporary copy of these files
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.

Extra information about the problem
BCCode: 1000007e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 9D1A7976
BCP3: 8B16FA20
BCP4: 8B16F71C
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1
Server information: 0e24fb51-e074-4e88-a944-136ba3f9a226

As for "files that could help" I have no idea where these are located, so if you need them please let me know how I can get them.

EDIT: I managed to get a picture of it (it flashes for about 3 seconds). It's all readable, but the flash reflected off the computer screen - Sorry!

hi this is what i found on your error code it is the same for vista
0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or some software issues. Check Event Viewer (EventVwr.msc) for additional information.

0x1000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M
Essentially the same error as 0x7E above. as for the minidump files i think you go to C:/windows.minidump
