No Audio Devices Installed Problem
I've been searching around for what seems like a million years and it looks like a lot of people are having this problem. Pretty cool, because now I have it too! Absolutely no sound comes out of my USB speakers (I have onboard sound) and my computer is acting like I don't have any way of playing sound at all.

Most of the fixes I've found seem to come down to needing to install drivers and such, but none of the audio drivers on the Gateway site do anything at all. In fact, it says they aren't even for me, or something to that effect.

I'm running Vista Home Premium and I honestly can't figure this out. I should note that a lot of people have said to look in the device manager under "sound, video and game controllers" or something, so to completely remove that as an option, that doesn't even exist in my device manager for some reason.

Any help would be appreciated as I am now slowly going insane.

Are you say if you go to:

Control Panel->Device Manager, you don't see your sound card/device in the list.

If Windows cannot recognize the device as a soundcard you should have an"UNKNOWN DEVICE" in the list (With yellow exclamation point).

If Windows does recognize the device as a soundcard you should have an"UNKNOWN MULTIMEDIA DEVICE" in the list (With yellow exclamation point).

Either way, you do need to install or reinstall the drivers, either from a disc that came with your pc or through the manufacturer website.

If not, the hardware may be defective.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything like that on the list. I'm beginning to strongly lean towards defective hardware. I love good news!

Fixed it. I downloaded and installed the chipset drivers from Gateway, I guess it was probably the last thing on there that I had not attempted. Either that, or one of the three hundred other things I tried eventually took.

Thanks for looking.
