Question Solved: BSOD "Driver Power State Failure" Help :)
Every so often my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop goes into BSOD and states Driver Power State Failure. It wasn't on for long enough so couldn't write down the rest of the numbers ETC..

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 Laptop
Windows Vista Basic SP1
New hardware includes a 7 port USB Hub made by Advent and also a 1TB Buffalo Drivestation External Hard drive

I have ran various scans for viruses malware ETC. including Norton 360 and Spybot Search and Destroy

hey adam, don't think it's malware or viruses, so no need to worry about that!

run your microsoft windows update in control panel and install all IMPORTANT updates.

not fixing the problem...::
find the appropriate (updated versions) vista drivers for all your hardware - pci cards, usb hub ext. you'll be able to find them on the manufacturer's web page.

vista is known for driver incompatibility. think that's the only problem you're facing right now.

good luck!

okay, sorry, didn't see you have a laptop, that cancels out pci cards, and i suppose you've already ran all windows updates? if you click "view available updates" in windows update (control panel). there might be additional updates available for your hardware like the usb hub ext.

you might need to update your motherboard drivers as well.

MS Windows Vista SP1:-
recommend installing the hotfix- and chipset driver updates first. other drivers might also cause this incompatibility, but try these two first.

Hi thanks for the speedy reply. I have just installed an updated graphics driver and also installed all windows updates which was only an IE8 update. I have had a look at the link you supplied and downloaded the hotfix one. Included in the zip file is 3 files which have different codes. I'm not sure which I should install. Here's the codes:
Windows6.0-KB928631-v2-x86
Windows6.0-KB930568-x86
Windows6.0-KB934796-x86

These are all .MSU files.

Thanks again

One more thing i would like to add.

It only seems to happen when I have either the USB or HardDrive plugged in. Dont know if this helps or not.

When it first started to happen it was a different error but that was when HDD was plugged in through USB HUB so my uncle told me to use laptops usb port and that seemed to solve the problem and now it has started again but with a different message.

it does help a lot, because this means your usb drivers (chipset drivers) are probably the reason why you getting these annoying "driver power state failures".
they're incompatible with vista, and no surprise there as it is vista we're talking about...

please download and install (right click on setup.exe - run as administrator) this driver::
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo..._Vista_SP1.zip
(this should, well hopefully, fix the problem...)

(ignore the hotfix! - post 5+6)

It appears to already to be installed as when I pressed next to install it just says it has been successful with no progress bar and usually on vista it takes 30 seconds to actually start installing. Ill try with hard drive later on today. Thanks
