I seem to have a unique problem here. A problem only Vista could think of...

Ill start from the beginning. I have this seagate 500 GB external HDD and currently I cant create new files... This I believe is a result of me attempting to share my HDD on my LAN. The problem is that I cant write to it in any way becuse when I try it says

The disk is write-protected.

Remove the write-protection or use another disk.


Try Again Cancel


So I went into the security options and set everyone to full control but nothing can be that simple with Vista

so after I clicked apply

This msg pops up


An error occurred while applying security information to:

G:ect..

The media is write protected.


Continue Cancel


I tryed running through each file holding down enter on Continue but in the end ether way it then comes up with this msg

Stopping the propagation of permission settings leads to an inconsistent state, in which some objects have the settings but others don't. If you made the change by mistake, you should apply the correct change immediately to achieve a consistent state.

So what I'm getting out of this is that I don't have permissions to change my permissions so I can write on a read only file???

Dose anyone have any idea whats going on here?

Ok i seem to have fixed the problem this website was of great use

Specifically this part

"In Windows Vista the Administrator account is disabled by default and in order to reach Real-Full-Administrator-Privileges you must enable it and disable all other acccounts with Administrator privileges as following:

1. Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users > Select "Administrator" (One click) > Right-click (Properties) will show "Account is disabled" > Enable it > OK. (If UAC prompts, answer YES).
Do not set the password!

2. Reboot the machine.

3. Log in Administrator account and disable all other accounts with Administrator privileges in "Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users" following above notes for enable it (check "Account is disabled" mark).

4. Be sure that your Administrator account is enabled and reboot the machine.

5. Control Panel > User Accounts > Configure advanced user profile properties > "Account\Unknown" > Delete (Optional: I have done it and now I have only one account on my machine).

6. Control Panel > User Accounts > Set the password for your Administrator account.

7. Then, if you want, you can also rename the Administrator account in "Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users".

Now you will reach Real Full Administrator Privileges under Windows Vista.



Btw: the above procedure must be followed with no changes."

Hopefully anyone else who has this problem will now be able to fix it to
