Did you save a regedit before you used the registry cleaner? Registry cleaners can create more of a problem than help. Most posters here advise NOT to use them.

Well there are multiple computers on the network, so that could attribute to the problem, but would it really slow the internet down this much if one of them is downloading something?

As for the regedit, I don't really know what that is, so unless it saves one automatically, then i didn't save one. I'm not sure how much that would help though, since the internet was slow before using the cleaner, restoring it to that wouldn't really do much.

I have made a habit of saving the regedit before making any big changes to the system.
click on start>run. Type in regedit. When that opens, click on File and select export. I put it in a file in my documents. If something goes wrong, then I can go thru the process and just import it back.
It is true, the more people using the network, can slow the system down a lot.
I have found that true when staying in an RV park with wifi, System fastest late at night.
Happy Computing

What version of AVG are you running?
I have always been a fan. I even convinced my company to let me switch them from Norton to AVG Pro several years ago.
But.........
Following their latest update to version 8.5 so many employees were complaining about slow computers and slow connections I have removed it from all of our systems. I replaced it with Norton AV 2009, which is fast and light. A fast light free anti virus is Avira.

If you have AVG 8.5 you might try uninstalling it. If it improves you will know. If not you can always put it back. It's not a good test to disable it, unless you go into advanced options and disable every single module.

@Stormyonell:

I think that fixed it. I was running AVG Free 8.5, so following your instructions, I uninstalled it, as well as SB: S&D. After a quick reboot, my internet seems to be working back at a normal level...

2579 kbps Download
427 kbps Upload

Thanks a ton. I'll post back here if the problem persists.

Great! it's a shame what used to be such a great program turned into a resource hog.

Please don't forget to install another anti virus!

Unfortunately, it seems that my problem is back. AGAIN. Tried the speed test again, and the results are:

1594 kbps Download
183 kbps Upload

Can anyone think of any other suggestions?

UPDATE #2:

Pretty much the only thing left that I can think of was Network Card drivers for my Broadcom 802.11g WLAN, so I checked that. My driver was a version from June 21st, 2006. Seeing as the problem just started again, I tried rolling back the driver. No help there. I also tried updating them via the "Update Driver" option in the Device Manager area, but that said that the one I had was the best one for my system.

Perhaps my driver IS the problem? Can someone give me a link to the latest Broadcom 802.11g WLAN Network Card Driver? I've looked up and down the internet, but the only places I can find are places that I would have to pay for.

Any Help?

UPDATE #3:

I'm fairly certain that it isn't caused by a lot of people on the network, because even though there are like 6 computers on the network, I'm the only one using the internet right now and it is still slow. ( I know I'm the only one using it because its Password Protected and no one else is awake. ). I checked the speed and it hasn't really changed.

I'll stop posting updates until someone replies, sorry for posting this many.

For the driver? Try www.driverguide.com. The site is free to use, but you must register to use any of the drivers.
They might have what you are wanting.
