#16 | Try another chat or email or call to Dell Monday. Say that a rep. told you the Studio 17 is covered for the free upgrade and that there is an online error. Ask if they can confirm, and when will the online be corrected.
Remember that if you get the computer you want at a good price you have a couple weeks during which you can pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for $50 (e.g., at Best Buy). | | Distinguished Member with 12,049 posts. | | Join Date: May 2005 Location: Kokomo, IN Experience: More Input Please |

#18 | Thanks, Terry and Noyb, for the BestBuy tip. The sytem I'm looking at cannot be ordered with XP.
I spoke with another Dell agent a few moments ago who said that the Studio 17 is NOT included in the free Windows 7 upgrade (as I suspected), isn't sure why, and predicts that if the free upgrade isn't available with the system now, it probably won't be available with it anytime in the near future.
Did any of you order your $50 Windows 7 upgrade from BestBuy yet? I would need it for the new laptop I'll be purchasing by the end of the summer, and also for my family's desktop computer (which I am currently using) that was purchased last summer with XP. I see that you can order up to 3 titles with it. I'm thinking I will only need two.
**Also, this is off topic, but when I ordered my family's desktop computer last summer, I had Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 installed on it, and therefore they sent me a brand new installation disk. Would I be able to use this disk to install Office on the new laptop I receive? Or will it not work since it's the same title as the Office installed on my desktop? I just really don't want to have to purchase it again for my laptop if I don't have to, considering my parents just bought it last year. Thanks.

#19 | Got my W7 Home Premium from BBuys yesterday .. Internet order only.
Office 2007 should work OK in the upgrade...
Not sure how many computers it can be installed in.
If you can get that Dell with XP .. I'd jump on it.
Good XP computers are getting hard to find ... I'm running W7 rtm right now. | | Distinguished Member with 3,729 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Experience: Advanced |

#20 | Best Buy, Amazon, NewEgg, TigerDirect, Microsoft, ???, they've all got the upgrade promo going on for Windows 7. So the question is, is it limited to 3 Windows 7 upgrade preorders per address or name, or 3 per vendor? I need 4 for 4 systems that don't have XP drivers available so I was wondering if anyone knew how that worked. | | Moderator with 26,865 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Ottawa, IL Experience: Intermediate to Advanced |

#21 | There should be an EULA on that Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 disk. The retail version (as far as I know) allows use on three computers; but the one you got may be a special OEM version allowing use only on the computer with which it originally came.
FWIW I ordered the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade from Best Buy June 26. | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2007 Experience: Intermediate |

#23 | The disk I have is an OEM version, but I'm going to have to search around for the EULA to see what it says. I'm betting that it can only be used on the desktop it was installed on, though. Looks like I'm going to have to spend another $100 for (in my opinion) a ridiculous reason.
