Question Solved: "Limited Connectivity"-Windows Vista
Hello everyone!

Well, a couple of days ago I turned on my computer and opened up the "connect to a network" window. My usual wireless network, called Motorola, was there and I had three bars, so I clicked "connect".

It was taking forever, when finally a message popped up: "Connection unsuccessful- If you are connecting to a wireless hotspot, you might need to open a web browser to finish connecting"

This had never happened to me before, so I did what it said but it didn't work. The only thing that happened was that the network was still there, but it said "limited connectivity" and won't allow me to browse the internet. I can still open FireFox but none of the pages will load.

Other tech support sites have told me to unplug my router and modem, and all this other stuff that I don't understand. If anyone could help me out, I'd GREATLY appreciate it I'm kinda technologically retarded, so if you could explain everything thoroughly it would help a lot.

Also, if it helps my computer is a Gateway-running on Windows Vista Home Premium. My parents got it for me back in 2007, and it hasn't given me a problem like this before. I'm now only able to connect using our AOL dial up connection, which sucks because it's SLOW.

Look below at the pic and your Router may look a bit different but the back where the cables plug in should be similar........just take the jack that supplies power to the router out for a minute and then plug it back in....wait a few minutes and then try to get online.

How many people are on the Router and are they Online OK

I don't think I have a router...I'm sorry btw if this is frustrating
I don't have anything plugged into my computer besides the charger and my phone cord for the dial up connection.

Woah. Really? Um, the name of the network is Motorola and my sister told me that we're probably just close to the tower which is why we can pick it up.
The only neighbors I have are an old couple, and I'm pretty sure they don't use the internet.

It may not be next door maybe further but you must have been using someones wireless that had not password protected it...and now they have or your PC cannot connect to it for whatever reason.......guess for the moment you are stuck with dial-up

That really stinks Well, thank you for trying to help me. You're the first person all day that has made any sense to me.

So, is it possible for me to set up my own connection here at my house?
