Recurring BSOD
Recently got a new PC, spec is as follows:

QX9650 3.0ghz Quad core extreme
NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI (might not be the 780)
8800 Ultra
4gb ram (Think 1066mhz, but don't know)
Vista ultimate

I keep getting a BSOD, ID2057, generally when playing games, or watching videos.

I've done this so far:
"In Vista you can check the ram by running mdsched.exe -- read the additional info and run the extended tests.

Also run eventvwr.msc and look at the System log for repeating errors -- especially NTFS ones.

Open a command prompt (start > run: cmd and enter this:

fsutil dirty query c: -- if the drive is clean it will return "not dirty"."

It all came up fine. Also got the latest nvidia drivers.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great!

Cheers,

They look like memory management or graphics faults, but in running a command which shows the drivers in the "trap frame" of the errors, I keep coming up with a variable, and unrecognizeable module that suggests a possible rootkit trojan >>

Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for ab9bfm79.SYS
Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for a1z22jjp.SYS
Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for azpkx7zt.SYS

These are just from the last 3 dumps.

All of these show a timestamp of >> Sat Mar 21 07:47:30 2009 (49C4FE02)

I have no idea what this is, if it is not a part of the Nvidia graphics routine I have to suspect malware.

You might try running some rootkit scanners on the system such as Blacklight >>

Thanks for your advice Rog, I'll give that a go when I get back from work, it's a fresh install so I'm hoping it's not a trojan of some sort.

Also post a HijackThis scanlog; while really sophisticated trojans don't show up here, it's still worth having a look at.

Download and install HijackThis. Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

Did a full scan using Malwarebytes, came out clean.

I'll have a look at HiJack this also and post the logs.

I'd be very surprised if it was a trojan, since it's blue screened since the day I got it with fresh install of Vista, but you never know!

Have you tried the Blacklight scanner? It is a true rootkit detecter. Malwarebytes is not.

Also, not a cleaner, but used to detect rootkits >> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb897445.aspx

And is the install from a Microsoft disk?
