Windows Vista going to Log In screen..
I'm using Windows Vista 64 on my laptop. The laptop is only a week old. It's an HP Pavilion dv7 1280us with Intel Core 2 Quad.

When I'm logged on and using the computer, when I sit idle for anywhere from 45 seconds to 10 minutes or so the screen will go black for a split second and it will go to the login screen (the screen that comes up when you first boot up to select a user and put in the password). Then I'll click on my name and it will come back up instantly. Kind of like it's logging out and going into sleep mode; except you can tell the cpu is still running and when you click the username everything comes up in less than a second.

I don't have a screen saver on. I have changed all my sleep settings and related battery power settings to when plugged in NEVER.

Any ideas? One person suggested uninstalling Microsoft .NET framework. I did that and it's still the same.

Thanks in advanced if anyone can help!!

The Power settings are probably doing that.
Did you go into the Advanced Power Settings and Change the Require a Password on Wakeup.

Did you also look at the Require a password on Wakeup setting?

Yeah, I have it on Don't require a password.

and when it goes to that screen I don't have to type in a password. I just click on my username and everything comes back.

Thanks for the quick reply, though!

Is the problem solved ?

The screensaver settings can also bring you back to the login screen. By default the screensaver is set to turn on after 10 mins and there is a checkbox there for bringing you to the login screen.

Please help me! This is getting VERY annoying when I'm trying to watch my college video lectures. Especially if I pause the video to take notes; it will log me off within a minute or so!

So basically it's logging me out and taking me to the log-in screen. However it's not fully going into sleep mode I don't think.

I have all the appropriate power options selected and no screen saver.

Thanks!

Right-click the desktop and select Personalize.
Click Screen Saver
Uncheck the box next to On resume, display logon screen

Did both of those.

I just tried removing users all-together. I'm going to reboot and give it a bit to see if maybe that will help..
