 | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Safe Mode w/ Networking Problems I need to able to run networking while in safe mode. I cannot seem to get to the internet. Windows only shows local access to my router. I even tried connecting directly into my router and cable modem but still cannot establish the connection. A challenge is you can't use the diagnostics tools in safe mode.
Any suggestions?

The networking drivers are not loaded in Safe Mode, but I can't think of anything but hardware failure that would prevent an ethernet connection in Safe Mode with Networking. | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Safe Mode w/ Networking Problems The problem is when using safe mode with networking. The internet connection works fine when in normal vista but does not when in safe mode with networking. If you think this is a hardware problem any idea on how to identify it in normal vista?
Thanks! | | Moderator with 26,865 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Ottawa, IL Experience: Intermediate to Advanced | | I have no idea why that would be. Please show the following for normal mode and for Safe Mode with Networking. In the latter does the ethernet adapter show as OK in Device Manager? Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)
Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL
[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.
If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access. | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Safe Mode w/ Networking Problems Thanks for your help so far. Here are is the output of the IPCONFIG command. Look forward to your reply.

The only reason you have internet access in normal mode is because you had a wireless connection.
I expect the wireless to work also in Safe Mode with Networking. The only possibility I can think of is that in addition to Vista's WLAN Configuration you are using an additional wireless utility to manage the connection, and that utility is not running in Safe Mode with Networking. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
