No Sounds under Vista 32-bit
Hi there,

Im new to these forums and Im hoping you guys will be able to help me with quite an annoying problem...

My PC wont make a sound anymore. I mean music, videos, windows sounds, nothing. Im running Vista 32 bit, have on-board 5.1 sound (though Im only using 2.1) and no, the problem's NOT with the speakers. The vista sound-mixer shows sound's being played, but some how it doesnt reach the output. I tried removing the sound-device in the hardware manager and letting Vista reinstall the thing after a reboot but to no avail.
The problem occured after I openend up my case to clean it up a bit. I was real careful, but could I have disconnected any cables or destroyed anything by accident?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nexes.

PS: I hope this is the right forum, wasnt quite sure...

I have the same problem, however I don't think you disconnected a cable inside the case. Hopefully somebody can answer this. I have Vista Ultimate 32bit with sp2 (this problem occured before sp2), I have NO web audio nor do I have any windows sounds. For example my hotmail new message arrived works fine I hear that sound, but I dont get any sound from say a video being played on the web. I go into the control panel and 'test' my speakers I hear that sound works great, I click on test windows sounds and get no sound. I can put in a music CD and I get sound or a dvd. I have no errors even under hidden device, no flags in system events. I went to Gigabyte and D/l there sound drivers no change, I unistalled my sound drivers, let windows update take care of business, no sound. I have Malware Bytes installed full version and updated no bugs as of this writing. I think this has to do with a windows update but I am not sure which one. Ironically if I reboot into W7 all my sounds work great! go figure. Any ideas?

It's quite possible you've disconnected a cable inside your computer - you may want to open it up and double-check. Also double-check that the connections to the outside of your computer are correct.

Good luck!

I figured it out - for some reason I had to change the audio plug on the mobo from AC97 (or something similar) to HD Audio.... have no idea what went wrong there

thanks anyways, I appreciate the well meant responses!
