Hi, in our company we have a problem on several machines and we need to monitor some workstations to guess which applications write several folders (with chinese characters that stop backup process), and for that purpose i've been looking for an application.

First I found was Process Monitor, it works quite well, but the log it generates is really huge (gigabytes) even filtering only desired events (file/folder writing on a specific drive), and i'm looking for Reliabilty Monitor that comes with Windows Vista to setup that event logging, but I find no help on that windows feature nor I know if it can be done.

Do you know how to manage to do this with Reliabilty Monitor or other utility that monitors file system activity?

If you want to monitor a file/folder on a drive I would think that process monitor would be the choice. You can get a process (application) activity summary at any time by clicking tools on the menu bar, then selecting process activity summary. This will show which applications have written to the file/folder at that point of time.

Of course, you would have to filter by 'path is' which it sound like you are doing. I have attached a copy of the process activity summary below:

Process Monitor is a good suggestion (all Sysinternals tools can now be run from the internet without being installed on your machine permanently).

OpenedFilesView may also be useful, though it shows files that are open in realtime and I don't think it logs, though there may be a way to do it.
